Painters in Derby, KS
Reflection Ridge paints and re-sides homes across Derby, roughly fifteen minutes from our Wichita base. Most of Derby went up between the 1970s and the 2000s, which puts a large share of it squarely in the composite-hardboard siding era. Free on-site estimates.
What Derby houses have to deal with
Derby is a hardboard-siding town
Derby grew fast from the 1960s onward, and the bulk of its housing stock was built in the decades when composite hardboard siding was the standard cladding on a suburban home. That material has one predictable failure: the cut bottom edge of each board wicks up water, swells, softens and delaminates into layers. It shows first on the lowest course, under downspouts and behind foundation planting. If a thumbnail marks the bottom edge of a board on your house, that board is past painting — but the failure is usually concentrated on one or two elevations rather than the whole property, which makes a partial replacement and a full repaint the sensible answer.
Second-cycle repaints
A lot of Derby is now on its second or third exterior coat. That matters more than it sounds: each previous coat is a layer that the next one has to bond to, and the weak link is whichever of them was applied over chalk, over an unwashed surface or without a primer. A house with three coats on it doesn't need a fourth so much as it needs the failing ones taken back to something sound. That's a preparation question, and it's the main reason two Derby bids on the same house can differ substantially.

Derby painting questions
Can you match my existing siding profile?
Usually, yes — most Derby homes use profiles still readily available, and where a board needs replacing we match the profile and reveal so the repair disappears once the house is repainted. If a match genuinely isn't available we'll say so at the estimate rather than after the boards are off.
Do you work in Derby as often as in Wichita?
Derby is about fifteen minutes from our base in west Wichita and is part of our regular service area. There's no travel surcharge.
